2025 Space City Shootout Overview
This year there are 23 model categories described below. The featured marque is Chevrolet Camaro and the featured car type is Roadsters, however you may enter any kit that meets the definitions defined in the category descriptions below. All categories are open to modelers of all ages, but we have a special category for modelers under 16 years.
The entry fee for entrants 16-or-older is $10 for the first two models and $2 for each additional. For entrants under 16 the entry fee is $2. The first ten entrants under 16 years will receive a new kit take home.
A contestant may enter as many models as they wish in as many categories as they wish. However they should be aware there is limited space for displaying their models, particularly in the most popular categories.
Please click on the button below to download the registration form. Fill it in before you leave home and bring it with you to the registration desk when you arrive. This will save you a lot of time and will make it much easier to get your entries processed.
Judging and Awards
Each category will be judged by a panel of 3 judges who will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
In addition, Judges will award:
- Best Of Show
- Best Camaro
- Best Roadster
- Best Competition car
- Best Paint
- Best Engine
- Best Interior
2025 Space City Shootout Categories
1: Junior – All categories (15 and under).
2: Box Stock – Kit instructions must accompany the model. The model must be predominately polystyrene. Model must be built from parts supplied in the kit and each part must be used in the way the kit manufacturer intended. Design flaws may not be corrected. Removal of parting lines or injection points, filling of sink holes, re-chroming of flawed chrome, and use of replacement parts from an identical kit is allowed. Paint, foil, flocking or decals from any source will be allowed.
3: Factory/Showroom Stock – Any car, light truck, van or 4×4 with any level of detailing that is street worthy. Must have factory stock chassis and tires. Factory Stock Engine, dress up kits allowed. No Body changes and no other modifications from factory stock are allowed.
4: Street Rod (1950 & earlier) – Any non-factory stock street legal vehicle 1950 and older.
5: Street Machine (1951 & later) – Any non-factory stock street legal vehicle 1951 & newer. No Slicks Allowed.
6: Pickups – Any pickup truck. Utes (i.e. Ranchero, El Camino) also allowed.
7: Jeeps & Off Road Vehicles – Any light vehicle meant to be driven off-road, full-time or part-time. (Jeeps, Broncos, etc.)
8: Commercial Vehicles – Any vehicle used for commercial purposes. Light commercial vehicles must carry logo on body or commercial license plates. Emergency vehicles (police, fire) go into this category.
9: Custom – Any vehicle that has body alterations so that it is no longer stock in appearance. Any engine and/or interior modifications are allowed. Vehicle does not have to be street legal. Factory concept or experimental cars will be included in this class.
10: Low Riders – Specific category of custom car that has been lowered.
11: Foreign & Exotic – Any import or exotic street car will compete in this class. Stickered Drift cars
will not compete in this class . (Non-import exotics include Hennessy Viper, Ford GT, Saleen, etc.)
12: Competition, Straight Line – Any competition vehicle designed and built to compete on straight tracks (i.e. drag racing, Bonneville speed trials, Land Speed Record).
13: Competition, Open-Wheel – Any closed-course competition vehicle with exposed wheels (no fenders) designed and built to compete on a paved or dirt track or off-road.
14: Competition, Closed Wheel – Any closed-course competition vehicle with covered wheels (inside fenders) designed and built to compete on a paved or dirt track or off-road.
15: Curbside – Any type of car can be entered in this class but no open hoods, doors or trunk lids allowed. Interior may be visible and any level of detailing is allowed. Blowers, carbs and injectors visible through a hood will be allowed, but no additional engine parts may be seen. No mirrored bases and any chassis detail will not be judged.
16: Slammer – Any type of car can be entered in this class but no open hoods, doors or trunk lids allowed. Only the outside appearance of model will only be judged. Windows must be opaque. Visible blowers, carbs or injectors will be allowed, but no other engine parts may be visible.
17: Small Scale – Any model 1/43 scale and smaller.
18: Intermediate Scale: Any model 1/28 to 1/42 scales.
19: Large Scale – Any model 1/18 scale or larger.
20: Motorcycles – Any motorcycle detailed to any level.
21: Armored Cars, APCs, & Gun Trucks – Non-tracked (wheeled only) military vehicles. Any scale, any era. Machine guns are only mounted weapons allowed. No towed weapons. Only category these vehicles allowed in.
22: Dioramas – Automotive related scenes. Please limit size to no larger than 600 square inches.
23: Miscellaneous – Anything relating to the automotive field that does not fit in any other category.
Notes On Military Vehicles:
No tracked or semi-tracked military vehicles (i.e. tank, halftrack) allowed, although civilian tracked or semi-tracked vehicles (i.e. bulldozer, snowcat) are allowed. Military jeeps (and foreign equivalents such as kubelwagon, GAZ-69, etc.), motorcycles, and transport trucks are allowed in appropriate categories. Machine guns are only mounted weapons allowed. No towed weapons.
